From Sparkling Service to Exceptional Banking: A Banker’s Journey from Jewels to Finance

For nearly two decades, Jason Kamauoha has provided banking and financial services to businesses in and residents of Placer County and the Greater Sacramento area. But his successful career in the financial services industry may not have taken flight if not for a chance encounter with a customer who took notice of Kamauoha’s attentive nature and his exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills.

“I was working in a jewelry store at the time, helping a customer find the perfect engagement ring for his bride-to-be,” recalls Kamauoha. “After almost an hour together he asked if I would ever consider a career change, specifically working for him at a bank. That conversation was the spark that ignited the next 20 years of my career.”

After passing required industry exams, Kamauoha worked as a mortgage loan officer but quickly pivoted during the 2007-2008 financial crisis. Staying in the financial sector, he became a banker before eventually moving into business banking. “This is where I found my niche,” says Kamauoha. “Understanding who our customers are, what they do, and why they do it is key to providing them the best financial solutions that can help them grow or expand their business.”

Kamauoha remembers working with a customer who had been declined by other banks. By taking the time to delve further he was able to uncover details that resulted in the customer securing a loan. “I looked at every aspect of this business and learned that all the business partners were seasoned entrepreneurs with years of experience in their respective industries. These details helped our bank more fully understand the true risk profile associated with this business and ultimately enabled us to fund their loan and help them grow their business.”
